Why are speaking times incorrectly assigned to the wrong participant in Spotlight?

Last updated: September 2, 2026

Occasionally, Spotlight may incorrectly assign a participant's speaking time to another person in a meeting. This is a known limitation of the AI speaker identification system.

Why does this happen?

This issue typically occurs when two participants speak at the same time, particularly at the beginning of a meeting. When overlapping speech happens early on, the AI can become confused about who is who, and may swap the speaking time attribution between those two participants for the remainder of the meeting.

This occurs in approximately 1% of meetings.

How to prevent it

To minimize the chance of this happening, try to avoid speaking over other participants at the start of a meeting. Ensuring that participants take turns speaking clearly from the beginning will help the AI correctly identify and attribute each speaker.
